I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with Catherine, the family and the dog Java last week. My bedroom was very comfortable and the countryside around was lovely. Catherine's friendly attitude quickly made me feel at home. We spent a large portion of each day together talking in French, walking and visiting the many attractive villages and small towns, and visiting the little markets. I hugely enjoyed the bits of cycling I did as well as well as the various different card and board games (which we both played very competitively) after our meal. An evening spent with friends was a treat, giving me a chance to talk and listen to others as well as get involved in dances from different cultures and eras. It was all great fun. As a result of all these different enjoyable activities I feel much more confident in both speaking and understanding French, which was a large part of my motivation to come to Provence. Our son Louis spent a semester with Yvonne's family; he was enrolled at Newbridge College with the aim of joining a second year in the international English section upon his return, as his English level was really weak (goal achieved). Regarding the family, the welcome and kindness were very present. The entire family will be missed. Louis particularly enjoyed the sports-oriented and positive atmosphere of the family. Yvonne's cakes, the conversations, outdoor activities (canoeing), the ambiance… it was really nice. Concerning the college, he enjoyed experiencing new subjects such as woodworking and the quality of the courses, particularly the attentive demands of the teachers. The school's level is very good; students joyfully welcome foreign students. The school rhythm with rugby in the afternoon, friends… a bit more and he would have had trouble returning to France. Our week with Catherine, Celia and Java was magnifique. We arrived with different levels of French, which Catherine handled expertly, helping both of us to improve our speaking and comprehension of French. Our son, Jean, had a wonderful stay with Fiachra: full immersion (with lots of interaction and activities!), his Year-10 work placement validated by shadowing Fiachra at work, and a perfect relationship with Fiachra and his family (Jean truly felt like a member of the family!). With the goal of improving my English, I chose to spend a week in total immersion in England, with intensive lessons. Hello, I’m packing my bags to return to France after spending two weeks at Maria’s. The stay was very pleasant — the family welcomed me as if I were one of their own. Together with Maria, we went on six outings during which I discovered Malta’s monuments, hidden gems, and tourist sites. Through the lessons, I truly became more familiar with the English language, and daily immersion greatly improved my skills. I stayed for three weeks with Stephen and Helen in Donegal, Ireland. I experienced unforgettable moments with their family, and I learned about the cultural traditions of their region. It was an incredible experience. I also had the opportunity to spend a week volunteering at a Child Care Center, which allowed me to develop new skills (speaking English with 3-year-old children was a real challenge!). I warmly thank the whole family of Stephen for their hospitality, as well as Solène from Linguifamily, who pre-selected a host family that met both my objectives: a stay in Ireland AND volunteering. Linguifamily has developed a very good idea by allowing families to get in touch and organize language stays with each other. One must take the time to discuss and make sure everything 'matches' and organize the stay themselves (dates, travel, documents), but Linguifamily guides and reminds us of what we need to do. It’s different from the standard packages offered by other agencies. I find this enriching system because it strongly involves both families in the preparation. The first immersion stay (without lessons) for our son was perfect, and the Spanish host family was very attentive and fully integrated him into their daily life and vacation activities. He came back with great memories and is ready to go again.
