Welcome in our house !
We live in Tipperary town which is a small town but at the heart of Ireland so similar times on the train to visit Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Killarny and Waterford. I work nights nursing in a private nursing home three days a week. Antonio my partner is a service desk manager in an Irish bank and works from home. So both of us are available for the students. Our eldest daughter is studying teaching and home at weekends. We have two boys who both love gaming, trampolining, board games, soccer, gym, and learning about other cultures. We have a cat who is outdoors most of the day and sleeps inside at night. We are hosting three years now and have hosted many different students. For example, we have had German, french mainland and also reunion island, Spanish (all three cultures in Spain) and Italian. We really enjoy teaching not only book English but the local dialect of English spoken in Ireland. Our pricing per month includes 3 organised trips, food and board, game/movie nights and a family from family experience.
We have one double shared bedroom and one single bedroom available. The students have their own bathroom and shower only shared with them and our daughter on weekends. The double room has two single beds. Each bedroom has a bed, wardrobe, and desk in it.
For long stay: Now we understand the way the payment works we have quoted prices to include three trips/activities per month. These include one cultural visit a month where a full list is provided and students will pick themselves. Also one leisure/fun activity a month which include roller skating, aqua sport, water park, bowling, trampoline park, theme park, wall climbing, pitch and put, comedy shows and more. There will be walks also offered once a month to a place with nice views and nature. And the fourth weekend will be free for the student to spend in our home with the family allowing for family occasions like birthdays, celebrating St. Patrick's Day, etc.
For short term basis, I can arrange work experience in cafes/restaurants or local shops for students. At times, manual labor work experience in a carpentry job, but this isn't available often.
We are very flexible with our activities and pick activities led by students' choice. Weekly, we always have dinner together, and we have weekly movie nights and game nights that students are welcome to join. I am happy to help with student school work, etc. We have small chores for students to contribute to family life. We encourage hobbies like sports, gym, baking, and knitting. We go to traditional music nights and mark all holidays with a special effort. We are also open to trying food from their cultures or traditions they have. For example, our Swiss student was from Basel and celebrated a festival called Fasnacht. We made masks with the junior team like in Switzerland and woke up at 4 AM to start the parade, matching his family at home. It was an experience for sure.
Our daughter stayed in Tipperary with Janey for a full school year. She made lots of friends and did lots of trips over her nine months. She enjoyed cooking with Janey and showing some of our local dishes from reunion island. The rain was hard for her at the begining but she adapted well. She loved the school there. She also liked the gym. Fitness is important to her. Janey was very good and hosted all of our family for a meal when we visited our daughter at Xmas time. We felt our daughter was very happy with this family.
Antonio and Janey have kept our son Carlos this year for exchange. He has really enjoyed his time in Ireland. carlos is very active and he enjoyed the sports offered in the school and the gym for his training. He loved the trips they organised and was able to visit Dublin and cork easily from Tipperary with his friends. We recommend this family.
