We are Neil and Freddy and we live in a large old Normandy farmhouse with an acre of land in a small hamlet of eight houses in the middle of beautiful countryside. We are fifteen minutes from the small cathedral city of Coutances, twenty minutes from the coast and half an hour from the prefecture of St. Lo. Le Mont St. Michel, the D-day beaches and Bayeux are an hour away, Caen and Cherbourg are a bit further.

The room for a single guest will be the little loft which has a double bed, clothes storage, an armchair and a desk and is on the top floor of the building. There is a private shower room for the sole use of guests on the floor below. We do not recommend this room for anyone with mobility issues. Although there are other rooms on the first floor, these are only set up as twin or king size bedrooms and so may not be appropriate for a person on their own.
If the booking is for two people, we can offer a twin/king size en-suite room on the first floor as the Little Loft can only be used as a double room.

Neil speaks fluent English and A2 level French, while Freddy speaks fluent French, English, Portuguese, Spanish, and some Italian, and he teaches French to English speakers. We are happy to pick guests up from Coutances train station free of charge. St. Lo is half an hour away and so we would make a small charge for fuel. Caen is just over an hour away and Rennes an hour and a half.
The abbey at Le Mont St. Michel is free for EU citizens under 25, but if they need accompaniment there would be a charge for one of us to accompany them. There are other options such as Le cite de la mer in Cherbourg. The same would apply that if a minor needs to be accompanied there would be an extra fee to pay. We would not allow anyone in our care under the age of 15 to go in unaccompanied - this can be discussed and prices given before their visit and we are of course very happy to tailor visits to a specific student's interests. It goes without saying that we cannot guarantee that only English will be spoken by other people they talk to when out and about.

Life with your host family

This obviously depends on the weather and the time of year. But we envisage that in the morning we might do some baking/cooking and or gardening or walking the dogs. We would hope to prepare a breakfast and maybe a picnic lunch, or a shopping trip, or we might go on a full day excursion. We would expect to visit at least two major sights of interest as well as shorter trips to other closer locations during the week.
