Welcome to Helen and her family on a farm!
We are a fun, dynamic family living in a beautiful old farmhouse near Bergerac. Harry is 13 and the youngest of 4 children. Jeanne is the second youngest and she is 17, while the older 2 children have flown the nest and moved back to England to continue their university studies. We live on a smallholding with a variety of animals, and there are often new arrivals on the farm such as ducklings, chicks, or lambs. We are passionate about eating well and because of this, we grow a lot of organic vegetables here at the farm, but we do also eat meat! Previously I was a cardiology nurse but decided to take a big life change to be out in nature and enjoy the good life! I love foraging and cooking and often use recipes that we found while backpacking around Asia a few years ago. Our home is active, fun, and friendly, and we love to sit around the campfire chatting and playing games in the evenings. As a treat, we sometimes have a movie night with popcorn, or if the weather is good, we enjoy a picnic in the local vines. There are always a variety of activities incorporated into each day to make the stay the most unique and rewarding experience you could have. Each day is different, and we love to help build memories that you will treasure for a long time.
We only speak English at home and although the children do their studying in French, we make sure that English is the only language spoken here.
We start our day with a delicious breakfast made of homemade organic sourdough bread, and our honey or yogurt, local milk and cereals. Occasionally we have an English style breakfast of bacon, sausages and eggs, all of which is produced at the farm. We enjoy eating our meals around the kitchen table in winter or on the terrace during the summer (We do all eat meat here but we are happy to accommodate any other dietary requirements.) After breakfast there will be a few chores to do such as feed the sheep, give hay to the horses and walk the dogs. If English lessons are required I am very happy to sit for a period of time in the morning and have some fun learning together or walk and learn new vocabulary. For lunch we usually have a salad, soup or something light and sometimes make a cake or biscuits to enjoy after with a cup of tea! In the afternoon there are lots of local activities to make your stay fun. Swimming in one of the lakes nearby in the summer is a favourite, perhaps a visit to Bordeaux, kayaking, acrobranch, or laser play. I am happy to teach some cookery skills too such as Thai, Italian and Indian cooking or sourdough bread and cake baking. In the evenings we always sit together and enjoy a wonderful home cooked meal which is usually outside when the weather is nice. Here we share our stories of the day, relax, read, play pool or ping-pong, or board games and laugh and enjoy life.
Ma fille de 11 ans a passée deux semaines chez Helen durant l'été 2024 . Romane a adorée l'intégralité de son séjour. Helen et sa famille ont été d'une extrême gentillesse et bienveillance . Les activités , les jeux de sociétés, les animaux de la ferme, la cuisine d'Helen et la vie en communauté ont fait que Romane n'a pas vu passé son séjour et tout cela dans une ambiance anglophone . Quoi de mieux ? Romane garde que de très bon souvenirs . Vous pouvez faire confiance à cette famille . Votre enfant reviendra comblé .
Ma fille Manon a passé une semaine du 11 au 18 août chez Helen. Manon a été ravie de son séjour. Helen et sa famille ont été très accueillants, très sympas et bienveillants. Manon a pu participer à la vie quotidienne de la famille en faisant des activités et elle a beaucoup joué avec les enfants. Tous ces échanges lui ont permis de se familiariser un peu plus avec l'oral en anglais et lui faciliter la compréhension qui lui était un peu difficile jusque là. La cuisine d'Helen était excellente, elle s'est régalée ! Manon gardera d'excellents souvenirs de son séjour !
Tout a été parfait , l accueil, la nourriture, les activités, c est une famille parfaite , conviviale et chaleureuse au milieu de la nature , des activités au lac , de l accrobranche , une escapade au village. Mon fils est revenu comblé, il a réussi à se familiariser avec l anglais . Il garde un souvenir mémorable. Un grand merci à Helen , jake et harry. C était 👍👍👍👍
Milo a été ravi de son séjour dans la famille d’Helen. Tout lui a plu : la gentillesse des parents, les animaux , les sorties , les jeux de société …L’ambiance familiale et la très bonne cuisine d’Helen. Je les remercie encore une fois car cela lui a donné envie de renouveler l’expérience
Paul a adoré son séjour dans la famille d'Helen. Tout lui a énormément plu : la ferme avec les soins aux animaux, l'ambiance familiale et les nombreuses activités, les sorties au lac ou aux fêtes de village et faire la cuisine avec Helen en apprenant de nouvelles recettes. Il a tout le temps parlé anglais et son niveau de langue s'est vraiment enrichi. Il ne parle que de recommencer. Helen est très attentionnée et toute la famille très accueillante. Un grand grand merci à vous !
Leo est revenu ravi de son séjour de 10 jours. Il souhaite recommencer une telle expérience enrichissante à tout point de vue. Un accueil merveilleux d'Helen et de sa famille dans un cadre magnifique.
Pour une première fois, c'est un essais réussi. ma fille de 14 ans a été accueillie dans la famille de Helen où bienveillance et bonne humeur sont de mise. j'avoue que c'était rassurant de la savoir à moins de 2 heures de la maison . totale immersion en anglais. je recommande très fortement Helen et sa famille
