Welcome to our Normandy farmhouse in Manche.
We are Neil and Freddy and we live in a large old Normandy farmhouse with an acre of land in a small hamlet of eight houses in the middle of beautiful countryside. We are fifteen minutes from the small cathedral city of Coutances, twenty minutes from the coast and half an hour from the prefecture of St. Lo. Le Mont St. Michel, the D-day beaches and Bayeux are an hour away.
During the summer we run a chambre d'hotes. Freddy is originally from Nimes and has 2 MAs in English translation and business studies. He's spent over 25 years living and working in the UK before returning to live in France in 2018. He is a local councillor and runs a free French class for English speakers and a community singing group.
We have three dogs, two cats and six chickens. We both love arts, crafts and design, gardening and cooking.
The room for guests will be the little loft which has a double bed, clothes storage, an armchair and a desk and is on the top floor of the building. There is a private shower room for the sole use of guests on the floor below. We do not recommend this room for anyone with mobility issues. Although there are other rooms on the first floor, these will be at a higher cost which can be discussed with guests before they arrive.
The price will include at least two full day outings a week and other short outings every day, three meals plus drinks and other activities, but not any entrance fees such as the Bayeux tapestry or the Abbey of Le Mont St. Michel (free to EU residents under the age of 25) We can accept stays of less than a week although we feel that to get anything out of the immersive experience and sharing our way of life, guests should stay for a minimum of four nights.
This obviously depends on the weather and the time of year. But we envisage that in the morning we might do some baking/cooking and or gardening or walking the dogs. We would hope to prepare a breakfast and maybe a picnic lunch, or a shopping trip, or we might go on a full day excursion. We would expect to visit at least two to three major sights of interest as well as shorter trips to other closer locations during the week. The main meal will be in the evening which we will all prepare together. Other activities might be the weekly French class - as this is for English speakers, it also helps with learning English as our visitors will see the mechanics of how English people grasp French, singing rehearsal or country dancing which takes place once every two weeks. On free evenings we will watch an English film or alternative English television programme or play a board game.
