NEW HOST

Meet your host family: Zoe in United Kingdom

Welcome to Miss Zoe, the English teacher.

I’m Zoe and I live with my husband Mo and our very loving, playful chocolate Labrador called Lily. We live in a 3-bedroom bungalow with a garden in Newmarket, which is the world headquarters of horse racing, this is next to the beautiful city of Cambridge.

My hobbies are going to the gym, swimming, watching action-adventure series, walking Lily, trying new food and discovering countries and their cultures. I have travelled extensively and lived abroad for 15 years working mainly in the tourism sector.

Mo is an engineer; he is at work during the day but is always home in the evening and at weekends. He is a fantastic cook, and my favourite dishes are his Tunisian recipes. He loves adventure and any fast motor sports.

In 2003 I gained my TEFL qualification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), I am now a Level 5 teacher. I teach General and Business English, face to face or online to students of all ages and abilities.
I offer total immersion so there will be no other guests of the same nationality unless if you’re happy to do so. From the moment you arrive at our home, you will speak English. Day by day, your confidence will grow, and you’ll become more fluent in English. Lessons consist of working from books, playing games or using our own life experiences.
I am passionate about helping students to stay motivated while they improve their English skills. My lessons are customised to each student, based on their goals and interests, so I never teach the same lesson twice.
During my years of hosting, I have met many people from around the world including China, Japan, Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Germany and France.

Your English immersion experience :
A typical day with us

From Monday to Friday, the morning starts with breakfast, and our class usually begins after that at around 9.30am. Monday morning I will assess your English and discuss your goals.
Each morning, we will have lessons and generally pause mid-morning to take Lily for a short walk whilst chatting in English. Lessons will continue then we will have lunch.
The afternoons are free for you to do as you wish unless if you have prebooked an activity or excursion with me. If we are going on a full day trip, we won’t do sit down lessons that day.
In the evening, we sit around the table together for a delicious meal (we love to cook) any time between 6pm – 8pm depending on our schedules, we encourage you to practice your English conversational skills during this time.
After the meal you are welcome to relax with us and watch a film or series or you are free to do your own thing.
We want you to feel relaxed and be part of our family.

At the weekend, we do our chores around the house, if it’s a hot day, we might go to a place where we can paddle with Lily or maybe go to a café and watch the world go by, you are welcome to join us or you can make your own plans at the weekend.

There are good local amenities such as a free basketball court, sport centre with a gym, swimming pool, racket sports and exercise classes. There’s also a new free outdoor gym.
You can go horseracing, have horse riding lessons and even visit the National Horse Racing Museum or just watch the horses in training.
You are able to book tennis lessons, go-karting, quad biking, climbing wall, ice skating, Go Ape (aerial adventure), go bowling, watch a film at the cinema, watch a football match, take part in an escape room, go cycling in the forest, pottery painting, walk around National Trust estates, visit the seaside.

I can also help secure you volunteering work so you can mix with other English people to help your language skills improve.

Cambridge has a wide range of Museums and colleges to visit. Punting on the River Cam is a great way to learn about the history of the colleges. There are the Botanical gardens to visit plus many of other places in and around Cambridge.
The city of Ely offers a river walk, a magnificent cathedral and some interesting markets. Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful town featuring the ancient ruins at the Abbey Gardens.
London is also close enough for a day trip with numerous places to visit.
