Welcome to Chuck and Jenn's House
We are an American family who settled in the UK 12 years ago and bring with us a unique blended cultural experience for guests.
We live in a lovely five-bedroom Victorian house in the spa town of Harrogate, equally close to both York and Leeds.
Chuck works in ministry in various capacities (preaching, mentoring troubled youths, etc.) and Jenn works from home in the clinical research industry. We have three almost grown boys, with one already at university in London and the other two going in the coming years. This frees up several bedrooms and gives us a new way to help others.
We hosted international students many times over the years, with two living with us full-time for 2 years while still in the US. We love the idea of 'welcoming the world' into our home and learning about other places from our guests while also helping them learn about the two cultures we represent.
We enjoy spending time together around the dinner table talking about our day and enjoy Jenn's homemade meals (and occasional takeout). Jenn particularly loves to camp and is always looking for someone interested in joining her for a night or two off in the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales National Park.
We have bikes to borrow as well, and the area offers many great opportunities to ride through the beautiful countryside.
We enjoy getting out and seeing the beautiful countryside in the nearby Yorkshire Dales.
We also only live about an hour from the seaside and that is a common day out.
Jenn particularly enjoys exploring the rich history in the area including the many castles and huge country houses.
Exploring by bicycle has become a favourite activity in recent years and we have bikes to borrow for guests.
Our son Eli is a lifeguard at the local pool which gives opportunities for guests to visit there and swim. He also volunteers at a roller disco (roller skating) each Saturday night giving guests a great opportunity to meet other young people.
If interested, Jenn is always up for a night or two under the stars in a tent (the rest of the family not as keen) so this is always an option for guests to join in!
Directly in our neighbourhood is the widely sought Valley Gardens and Pine Woods. Built during the Victorian era for visitors to stroll through, it often feels like you have walked back in time. Amazing to have this incredible place as almost our 'back garden'.
