We are a family of three - a mum and two teenage boys (ages 15 and 13). I am a CELTA TEFL English teacher and mostly work online from home. This allows me the flexibility to dedicate a lot of one-to-one time to our guest. I will include one 60-minute structured lesson per 1 week's stay and can offer additional lessons daily (do a quote for additional lessons). My formal education and former career were in Marketing and Business Development management; I also teach Business English.
As a family, we are passionate about travel, and when we do not travel, we love to welcome travelers into our home :). Having lived an expat life for the last 10 years, we returned to our lovely city of Brighton this summer. During our life in different countries, we hosted many young travelers and students, which allowed us to develop many beautiful connections and friendships.
We love to keep the international atmosphere in our house by hosting students and showing them the best of what Brighton can offer. From long pebbled beaches and stunning coastline to the city's colorful streets lined with funky shops and cafes, Royal Pavilion, famous Brighton Pier, and the viewing landmark i360 Tower. We are very lucky to have easy access to the green fields surrounding Brighton (5 mins walk!), from where we love to take walks, picnics, or simply enjoy the views of the sea. We are a 5-minute walk to Brighton Marina, the beach, and a park with sports fields. The town center is a 10-minute bus ride, a 35-minute walk, or a 15-minute bike ride. Due to its many English Language Schools, two universities, and many colleges, Brighton attracts many young people and students.
Our home is a cozy one, an upper floor flat in a 3-storey house. You will have a room with two beds, which can be arranged as two singles, a double, or a bunk bed (as in the photo), depending on whether you are booking solo or with a sibling/friend. We will share the living room/kitchen/bathroom. You have access to a piano, guitars, and a bicycle (you need your own helmet!).
I am a TEFL (CELTA) qualified English teacher, although my main work is in Marketing. I love hiking, reading, meaningful conversations, badminton, and coffee shops. Matt and Dani love sports - football, basketball, volleyball, and badminton/table tennis, and music (they are both learning to play guitar/drums). They love gaming and hanging out with friends. They speak some French, German, and Serbian/Bosnian. They love to meet new people and to share experiences and stories.
We love to make our guests feel comfortable and welcome in our home. We are mindful that everyone enjoys different types of activities, and we like to find out our guest's interests and preferences and respect their privacy. We eat together two meals a day during school days (and a packed/cold lunch) and three meals during the weekend/holidays. We play board games, instruments, watch movies on Fridays or weekends, and like to talk around the dinner table a lot.
Optional paid activities:
- Trip to London - Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Trafalgar Square, National Gallery, Natural History and Science museums OR British Museum (due to their size and long queues, we can only visit one on a trip).
- Trip to a traditional English village of Lewes (where Guy Fawkes fireworks take place in November).
- Trip to Arundel to visit Arundel Castle.
- Visit to Seven Sisters coastal beauty spot (at no cost to guest).
- Windsor (castle).
- Hampton Court Palace (and gardens).
We look forward to welcoming your teen or young adult into our home.
