We welcome you to our home. We live on the outskirts of the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, and only 30 minutes by car away from the City centre of Birmingham. We also live quite close to Birmingham International Airport.
We offer a varied and international cuisine, and we enjoy having our guests join us for lunch / dinner, where we can also have a pleasant conversation and relax shortly after our meals. Guests help themselves to breakfast usually and if they are busy going out during the day we can offer them a packed lunch. It is always a warm meal for the dinner. We have two spare bedrooms to offer to our guests, one single room for one person, and the other room has a single bed plus a sofa bed for one.
There is one shower and toile to share. The host parents have their own bathroom. And there is a spare downstairs toilet. Towels are offered by the host family.
Just in case it so happens that there are two guests who speak the same language, the host family always insists that English should be spoken when in company of others who do not understand their language. We do our very best to have no other guests of the same nationality, but that may happen sometimes on some exceptional occasion. This can often be discussed in advance between guest and host before a booking is done, if the guest wishes to inquire about it.
When we welcome young guests, normally around 18 years of age, we start by showing them around the house and their room, of course. We tell them the set up and times of breakfast, lunch and dinner. We are always ready to answer any questions they ask, whether it is on their first day or through their entire stay. If any guest requires some help with their English, I can offer some English tuition as I am qualified as an EFL teacher for the English language with over 20 years experience.
Some students may wish to go on a tour to visit other towns with their host family and for that we can make some arrangement. They can of course go on their own, as an over 18 year old, and we can give them instructions of how and where they can get transport to places they want to visit. Adult guests over 20 years and over are also welcome to stay in our house. We are always happy to get to know people from all over the world! It is a very enriching way of life, always learning about other countries and their culture! Please come, and also make our guest book more interesting! (we are now in our 5th guest book!) Marlène et Ray sont des hôtes à la hauteur de ce qu'on attendait. Mon fils a progressé en anglais tout en étant dans un environnement bienveillant !
Nous avons passé 12 jours chez Ray et Marlene (ma fille de 13 ans et moi). Ils ne ménagent pas leurs efforts pour mettre leurs hôtes à l'aise... On se sent immédiatement bien chez eux. Nous y retournerons !
